The Slann Emerge from White Dwarf No. 98

Oldhammer Slann are really something quite fun, aren’t they?

A couple of years ago I came across resources for the old 2nd/3rd Edition Slann figures produced by Games Workshop. They had always stood out to me as rather distinctive when I saw them way back in WD98 (which I was too young to buy new, but got in a pile of old mags)

WD98 was released around the same time was Warhammer Armies, so it’s a little strange that it contains almost a compete Slann army list clothed as “Mercenary Slann” and based on the main list.

Army List

The units were picked for variety of models rather than any kind of tactical solution – there’s a distinct lack of standard Warriors, and more Slaves for a slightly more realistic army, but this is what we have for 1000pts:

  • Level 15 Wizard + Slave Litter (223)
  • Level 10 Hero + Light Armour + Double Handed Weapon (85)
  • Level 15 Hero + Light Armour Cold One Mount (186)
  • 6 Cold One Riders + Light Armour + Shock Elite (240pts)
  • 10 Elite Warriors + Double Handed Weapons (180pts)
  • 15 Lobotomised Slaves + Shields + Handler (57pts)
  • 4 Cold One Warhounds + Handler (12pts)

The condensed army list statistics are really easy to parse

Bear in mind that games of WHFB 3rd Edition are balanced around THREE THOUSAND POINT lists – so while this is legal it will definitely be a glass-cannon.

I don’t know if I’ll ever get these figures to the table as I’ve not done much in the way of wargaming in a long time – but it’s nice to finally have some 25mm figures which I can use under duress.
