OPR: Grimdark future

A friend of mine decided that he wanted to try ’40k’, and I thought I would oblige. Rather than dealing with the behemoth of the real game, I opted to run a game of Grimdark Future instead.

I pitted my Elf Raiders in the guise of High Elf Fleets (Noble, 10 Protectors, 5 Strikers, Combat Walker) against my (his) Space Marines as Battle Brothers (Master, 5 Marines with a flamer, 5 Marines with a missile launcher, 5 Assault marines, Dreadnought).

I’ve not really had much experience with OPR except a demo game with my 10mm figures some time ago so it was interesting to run through it – having not played a wargame in anger since Squad Weirdos with EdAble some time ago.

My Elves were able to dominate quickly by stealing the first two ‘shared’ objectives early, and a series of bad rolls with his Dreadnought had it at the mercy of my Protectors early on.

Towards the second half of the game, my Elemental Strikers (i.e. Zoats) had punched their way through a bunch of power armour, and the Marine assault squad cut down the Noble and his Striker bodyguard as a final pyrrhic act.

I think if I had confidence that my opponent was really going to get into it, I would absolutely have thrown down Renegade Scout as is my wont.
