10mm vs 15mm vs 28mm oldhammer

Most people who enjoy oldhammer do so at the venerable 25mm/28mm scale with original figures or scans thereof – I certainly have done so too – although I am ashamed to admit these weren’t old at the point I bought most of these figures:

However, in my battle reports for Renegade Scout and Rogue Trader I decided to print out some epic-scaled figures at 15mm – mostly so that I could keep the scale relatively close to what I remember without using up the whole kitchen table.

For the sake of comparison, see a marine and a dread from each scale:

I never did get my Orcs fully painted in 15mm, but I think they look neat:

A lovely STL rendition of the ‘cardboard dreadnought’ from the 2nd Edition Boxed Set was a great addition to the 15mm Orc horde:

While thinking about how I would play Warhammer Fantasy Battle 3rd Edition, I did consider 10 vs 15mm in rank and flank:

The difference in size is even more starkly illustrated when ranked up next to each other:

Ultimately, the 10mm just feels right to me for rank and flank! I did try to do individual bases, but I think that was just a bridge too far – and even the mental gymnastics to work through combat/contact mechanics in something as gargantuan as WFB3e is STILL simpler…

For the sake of comparison, here are some 10mm vs 2mm figures:
