CY_BORG: Solo RPG After Action Report

I am hoping to run a game of CY_BORG with my local dad’s gaming group next week and I thought it would be prudent to explore the system beforehand. This short entry details rolling up the character and the first heist they went on.

Character Creation

Creating a character for CY_BORG is an essential first step. I rolled up the following character:

Background

Pyrocore with embedded forehead display, so always wears hoods and shades to remain anonymous. Seeking enlightment, but can’t stop mixing stims

  • Credits: 50/-8000 to Fixer with Cops on Payroll
  • HP: 8/8
  • Glitches: 1/1 – max dmg, reroll, loower damage by d6, neut crit/fumblr, -4DR before rolling

Inventory (7/11)

  • Pulse Rifle – D10a Damage
  • Bio scanner – Track a person within 50m
  • Flashbang Grenades (4) – test Tough or +4DR for d4 roounds
  • Small Items:
    • Adrenachrome_HST (2) – Heals D6 HP, +1 abilities for D6 rounds, then -1 until rest
    • Pulse Rifle Mags (3)
  • Smartwear – Reduces Damage by D4, Automatic Adrenachrome Injector if battered

Abilities

  • Agility: +1
  • Knowledge +1
  • Prescence 0
  • Strength +3
  • Tough +1

Mission

Ia was approached by a masked stranger, to escort a cop to safety – only I could help. Knowing the debt I owe to the fixer and their involvement with the police, I figure it’s in my best interest to comply.

The location is a vertical mall in the arcologies, where he is being hunted by a Cyberslasher. The lifts only service every other floor. I have to find him before he’s killed by the Cyberslasher, or abducted by rival punks

Cyberslasher (HP14, -d4 armour, d6 damage, sell the corpse to a doctor for 100-1k. Def against at dr14 , Attack at DR10)

Rival Punks (HP:6 Morale: 7 Weapon: 9mm d6a)

Action

First floor is in the middle of the building, yawning chasms. There is an NPC in the corner, looking up the shaft.

The NPC steps back “I don’t want any trouble”. Ia asks who he is:

Initiative Roll: 4 - PC’s Go First

Ia steps out into the room, gun levelled.

Reaction Roll: 7 – Indifferent

<Various NPC rolls>

He is an hairless cringing salesman, here to spy on his opposition. Ia asks if he has a shop in the mall

Oracle (GOOD): Yes

“Yes, on the 9th level. She presses more and he advises the layout of the building. Ia asks him if he knows how to get between levels

Oracle (EVEN): No

“N-no, they are restricted, the corp that owns this building uses them for hazchem storage and Gxd knows what else, I can’t afford being caught there”. Ia looks around before rifling through the man’s pockets at gunpoint

Pocket Lint D66: Wrapped BugGrub Burger

The advertiser shrinks back and runs off into the street. Ia can hear commotion in the street outside, and decides to get a move on. She calls the elevator button and it arrives. The numbers read 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11. With six floors to find the cop before the Cyberslasher, she decides to go from top down, pushing 11.

Deck of Many Dungeons:

Octagonal Space south-side elevator (nee doorway)

1 Goblin/Zombie per PC (substituted as 1x GMT) , 1D8 Iron Spikes (substitite D3 + D12 Gear roll: A bottle of pulverized acid)

Initiative Roll: 2 - NPC’s Go First

Attitude Roll: 5 - Angry

A SecOps guard yells at her to get off this level. Seeing no obvious signs of the Slasher or the Cop, Ia backs into the lift and the doors close as she moves down to Level 9.

Roll d6 ≥ levels remaining (5) to determine if cop is on this level: 2 - Not on this level

Roll d6 ≥ levels remaining (5) to determine if Cyberslasher is on this level: 2 - Not on this level

Level 9:

Deck of Many Dungeons:

  • Rectangular space with columns
  • Corpses covered in black mold
  • Pit trap by the entrance
  • Secret door with d4x20 credits: 4 – 80creds

Ia steps out,

Save Vs. Agility DR12 = 4+1 = Hard Failure

And immediately tumbles through the rotten floor into the liminal space between public levels,

Defend Vs. Agility DR12 = 9+1 = Slight Failure D2 = 2 Damage - 1D4 (2) Armour = no damage

Crashing into the floor it is oppressively hot and,

Oracle: “Are there drones between levels?: YES!

Hair prickles on Ia’s neck as ultrasonic alarms sound.

Roll 1D4 every action, at total 5 a drone appears: 2

Ia fumbles around on the floor looking for a way back to a public level. Are there hatches?

Oracle GOOD: “YES!”

She quickly identifies a hatch and slides through it without looking.

Save vs Agility DR12 for falling and being caught unawares automatically: = 11+1 = Pass.

She lands on floor 7:

Deck of Many Dungeons:

  • Quest Goal (i.e. Cop)
  • Raised Walkway

Roll 1D4 every action, at total 5 a drone appears: 2 + 5 = Drone arrives in liminal space.

Has Ia been covering the hatch:

Oracle EVEN: “Yes” - Ia gets initiative automatically

Roll D2 for drone: 5 = Flyer (HP 8, Morale: -, SMG d4a, DR14 to hit - 10-100 creds,

Ia blasts away with auto-fire:
Roll + Agility vs DR14: 7 Miss
Roll vs DR12 for Drone shot: 14 (hits)
Roll 1D4 damage - 1D4 armour: 3 damage
Current HP: 5/8
Roll vs DR12 for second shot for Drone SMG: 7 Miss
Ia dives for cover (+2DR) and they exchange fire again.
Initiative Roll: 2, NPC goes first
Roll vs DR12+2 for Drone Shot: 17. (hits)
Roll 1D4 Damage - 1D4 Armour: 2-4 = 0 damage
Roll vs DR12+2 for Drone Second Shot: 20 (Crit)
Roll 1D4x2 Damage - 1D2 Armour: 6-2 = 4 damage
Firing back on auto vs DR14: 17 (hits)
Roll D10 damage: 3
Second shot on auto vs DR14: 14 (hits)
Roll D10 damage: 6
Drone is destroyed.
Roll D6 1-3 to expend a mag: 5 (no)

Looking around, the room is a double-height precinct hall with a mezzanine floor around the perimeter. Ia, bloodsplattered and weary sees the Cop tied up to a chair in the centre of the room. She needs to catch her breath:

Roll 1D4hp restore: 2
Current HP: 3

Time has passed equivalent to searching another level,

Roll d6 ≥ levels remaining (5-1) to determine if Cyberslasher enters this level: 5 - enters

Oracle Catalyst: Suddenly Blinded (incidentally also ‘Location: Butcher’ which was pretty appropriate)

The Cyberslasher focused on the cop does not notice Ia, and she drops a flashbang over the mezzanine railing

Cop & Cyberslasher both suffer +4DR for 4 Rounds

Ia decides prudence is the better course of action, slinging her pulse rifle and sprinting across the room

3 Rounds remaining

She unties the cop

2 Rounds remaining

They haul towards the Elevator

1 Round remaining

Is the elevator still there?

Oracle EVEN: No

The she slams the elevator call button and fires her pulse rifle from the hip:

Roll vs DR10: 12 (hit)
Roll D10 Damage - 1D4 Armour: 3-2 == 1 damage (Cyberslasher HP 13/14)
Roll vs DR10 for auto-fire: 16 (hit)
Roll D10 Damage - 1D4 Armour: 2-1 == 1 damage (Cyberslasher HP 12/14)
Roll vs DR10 for auto-fire: 14 (hit)
Roll D10 Damage - 1D4 Armour: 6-1 == 5 damage (Cyberslasher HP 7/14)

The Cyberslasher leaps forward with its razor claws:

Roll+4+1 vs DR14 to Dodge: 8+15 = 13 (hit)
Roll D4 Damage - D4 Armour (2-2) = 0 Damage

The Cyberslasher’s ocular implants are readjusted, but at close range she unloads again

Roll D6 Initiative - 6 = PCs go first
Roll +2 (Close Range) vs DR10 for Auto fire: 7 (miss)
Roll+1 vs DR14 to Dodge: 15 (miss)

The Elevator arrives. Was it the SecOps guy from the 9th floor investigating the noise?

Oracle (EVEN): No

The Elevator is empty but for gore splattered across the yellow metal. Ia backs into the corner and fires off one last burst:

Roll D6 Initiative - 5 = PCs go First
Roll vs DR10 to hit: 7 miss + reroll from Glitch = 10 (hit)
Roll (eventually) 4 + 3 damage
Cyberslasher dead

The Cyberslasher skids to a half in the middle of the lift, buzzing and spitting but non-functional. The lift doors close, and Ia sinks to their knees next to the cowering cop.

Check Ammo (4+): 4 - Not out of ammo
Take a breath (Heal 1d4): 4 (Current HP 7)

As the lift descends to the entry level, Ia remembers the commotion she heard earlier. Is it audible in the lift?

Oracle EVEN: Yes
Catalyst: Hit by a Stray Shot

She looks down at the cop, who is bleeding profusely from a wound inflicted by the Cyberslasher as it went down. She slams the buttons on the elevator to stop at the nearest level and it coasts to a halt at 3

Deck of Many Dungeons: Octagonal Room with piles of rubbish + Quest Goal
Roll +1 vs DR10 to see if Ia notices the cred chip: 14 (success)
Roll 1D20x10 creds: 17 - 170 creds on the chip

Clear in the centre of the room is an open hatch into the liminal floor 2. They stumble down into it and across into an adjacent stack before dropping down to the entry level there.

Was the commotion a rival gang (yes) or a secOps team (no):

Oracle EVEN: No (secOps Team)

Something was going on, on the top floor of the mall. Something the secOps drones didn’t want anyone to know about. She and the disheveled cop lurched into the darkness of the vacant Arcologies, back to find her masked stranger.

Questions

Was the masked stranger related to the fixer she owed money to?

Was the cop part of the fixer’s leverage over the police?
