Background

See here for the intro, here for year 1, and here for year 2, here for year 3.

The Undead were conquered by the Green tide, and then the High Elves fell to Tzeentch. The Night Goblins repulsed the slaves of Hashut. For the this year’s campaign, the rolls are as follows:

  • Night Goblins have Aggression 2 + D6 roll of 4 = 6
  • Chaos Dwarfs have Aggression 2 + D6 roll of 1-1 = 3
  • Tzeentch have Aggression 3 + D6 roll of 1 = 4

The Night Goblins are on the counter-offensive, pushing the Chaos Dwarfs back to their cursed ziggurat!

Deployment for the greenskins was more difficuilt this time, their overreach into the Chaos Dwarf territory yields unfamiliarity in the terrain, and though the capture of the Altar of Hashut would be a terrible blow to Dwarf morale, its position in the board has split the deployment area of the goblin forces.

The battle started off with both forces advancing – the Chaos Dwarf melee focus driving their side, and the shortbows of the Goblins forcing the other.

The Giant crashed into a melee with the Bull Centaurs, killing several – but was then victim to a flank charge by the Warriors, their double-handed weapons gleaming.

In the centre of the combat the Giant was toppled – onto the General – who managed an uncharacteristically nimble dodge – but all the while the Wolfriders continued their flank movement, caving in the Dwarfen right flank and driving the Hobgoblins in flight.

The Giant slain once again by the heavy axes of the Warriors, the inexorable advance of the Chaos Dwarf comes with little resistance and the Goblin line starts to waver:

The Dwarven weight of fire from the blunderbusses, a warrior charge and the hooves of the Centaurs forced the Goblin line back, breaking almost the entire goblin army in the process.

When all seemed lost for the Greenskins however, there was a spectacular reverse: The Trolls, having lolled stupidly for the entire game had a sudden moment of lucidity, vomiting acidic bile over nearby Chaos Dwarf warriors, breaking their nerve and then running them down. Opposite them, the arcing path of the Wolfriders took them into the Chaos Dwarf backfield, scattering the other unit of Hobgoblins.

Finally, Shaman Champion Makarev rallied his Spearmen with his Crown of Command, was able to unleash a final torrent of fire onto the last remaining Bull Centaur, turning him to ash.

As a result of the Wolfrider’s dashing charge around the rear of the Chaos Dwarf lines the servants of Hashut only held a single table quarter, against the Night Goblin two. Though the Goblins had suffered terribly in casualties, those by the Chaos Dwarfs were valuable enough to cede the victory to the Night Goblins in the final turn!

We are set up for the final showdown: the greenskins against the Daemons of Tzeentch!
