After discussing how to set up a campaign setting, and how to build a mercenary company, I thought it would be prudent to share what I ended up with:

Mercenary Leader

The Mercenary Company is led by a colonel, who has his own personal BattleMech:

• Black Knight – BL-7-KNT (Colonel Cuthbert – Veteran)
  • Crew: Leader(free), Tech, 6x Astechs = 5500cMaintenance: 7500c

Leadership 8, Tactics 6, Strategy 3, Negotiation 6 (p36 BT:CO) yielding a Command Rating of 23 and an overall Reputation Score of 33.

Lance: “Grey Area”

The first Lance in the Mercenary Company is as follows. Ammunition cost in brackets is for replenishment after expenditure in combat, training and test ammunition is covered under Monthly Peacetime Operating Costs below.

Monthly Peacetime Operating Costs

Regardless of any operations, there is a minimum expenditure for training ammo, spare parts, fuel and maintenance, as well as the salaries for pilots and support personnel.
